So after a couple of days of intense driving around this beautiful island, we finally had a chance to stop and enjoy the scenery in a different way –by spending the afternoon swimming in the wild sea! So I grabbed my camera and it was off to the shore with my partners and I.
Of course we had to stop for some candid photo ops before we headed down to the actual beach. The scenery here gives me so much energy that I find myself jumping and skipping around all over the place.
Float like a butterfly, sting like a travel photographer!
In this South-Eastern part of the island, there are many beaches on can enjoy. With some of the best and most accessible beaches on the island, Porto Vecchio has become Corsica’s number one tourist region. If you want to go to a spot that is a little less touristy and as they say, off of the beaten path, right in Bonifacio you will find a number of lovely beaches. There are actually 7 in total– so you can chose which one is best for your trip —
There are several beaches lining this gulf, including the Plage de Maora. The sand has large granules, and is very pebbly (ideal when windy). There is a small snack bar too for when you get hungry after a nice long swim or walk along the shoreline.
Further around the bay, views improve and there are many coves that attract bathers and water sports enthusiasts. The main beach Plage de Santa Manza is a great starting point for coastal walks – just follow the tracks through the maquis.
After a long walk along the shoreline, it was time to get wild and splish splash in the beautiful water. And I know what you are thinking, so I am going to go ahead and answer it for you– yes the water is warm, and yes it is super clear, you can see everything when you look down.
Can’t beat the feeling of the sun on your back, sand under your feet and warm water at your sides!
After an afternoon well spent swimming and bathing in the sun, it was time to head back into town to eat and then get some rest before the next day of meetings and races! We indulged in jambon (local ham), fresh cheese, wine, and a variety of local specialties. I hope you enjoyed the afternoon of swimming in the wild sea with us. Please stay tuned for more posts from beautiful Corisca! Don’t forget to leave me a comment below and share your thoughts so far.
